Sound apps are a surprisingly popular genre of app. Kids and adults both enjoy animal sound apps. Nature sounds and sleep sounds work great for getting deeper, more peaceful sleep for some folks. Thankfully, developers don’t mess up these genres very often. Most apps in this category do what they say. The only question is how well they do it. Here is our list of the best nature sound apps, sleep sound apps, and animal sound apps for Android!
Ambience (sic) is a popular sleep sound app for Android. It features a clean, simple UI along with a variety of calming sounds. They include things like rain, waves, crickets, and even some music. It lets you mix and match various sounds from similar genres as well for custom sounds and tracks. Thus, you can have morning rain and then mix it with distant thunder and add a roof effect to create a unique sound. The app is easy, cheap, and effective. There are some good sounds with this one.
Animal Sounds by Premium Software is a very capable animal sounds app. It features over 160 animal sounds and it supports 40 languages. Some other features include pronunciations of each animal name, a few built-in games, and information about each animal. The animals are categorized by habitat mostly like farm animals, pets, wild animals, etc. It’s very much a work in progress, but it’s actually not half bad already.
Atmosphere is another very good sleep and nature sounds app. The UI is very similar to Ambience (above). You have a mixer of a bunch of different sounds. You can mix and match as you please to create the sounds you want. Each effect has a volume slider for higher or lower volume. The app also lets you upload custom sounds as well. The app is free with advertising. A single $2.49 purchase removes ads and you can donate more if you want to. This same developer also does a binary therapy sounds app and a baby sounds app as well.
Calm is technically a meditation app. However, it’s also useful for its excellent selection of calming music and sounds. The app includes meditation classes, tips and tricks for a less anxious life, and tons of nature sounds and calming music. This even includes short stories to help you sleep. That’s kind of neat. The app requires a subscription. It goes for $12.99 per month or $59.99 per year. This is one of the few times we’d recommend just going for the year. $12.99 per month is absurd, but $59.99 doesn’t seem too unreasonable.
Loopray is a developer on Google Play with a couple of decent nature sound apps. The first is a simple rain sounds app. It lets you customize the amount and volume of the rainfall, thunder, and lightning. Otherwise, it’s a fairly simple app. The other app, Relaxing Sounds, has a lot more to it. It boasts over 30 nature recordings, isochronic tones, the ability to mix sounds, and more. It also has a sleep timer if you need one. The apps are both inexpensive and work as intended.
Dream_Studio is another developer on Google Play with a bunch of different sound apps. Some of them include an animal sounds app, several nature sound apps, and even a sound app for sleeping babies. None of these apps are overly powerful. However, they all do a competent job of delivering the content they promise. Most of them have timers, an auto-play mode, offline support, and more. They’re all also free with advertising. This is excellent for people wanting sound apps on a budget.
Real Animal Sounds is a simple app for animal noises. It boasts a library of over 150 animal and bird sounds. Each sound is usable as a ringtone as well. Some other features include gesture controls, a decent (if old looking) UI, and categorization by land, air, or sea. The images of the animals are usable as wallpapers as well. It’s not going to blow your mind or anything, but it works well enough and we didn’t hate it. The app is also free with ad support.
Relaxio is a popular developer of sleep sound apps. There are just under a dozen apps to choose from. They include a few sleep sound apps, a baby sleep sound app, some nature sound apps, and a white noise generator. Literally all of them do a good job. The apps vary in terms of features. However, they all include a range of noises and sounds, the ability to mix custom stuff, and a decent selection of sounds to play. They’re also all relatively inexpensive. These are definitely some of the best ones available.
White Noise Sleep Sounds is a decent noise generator app. It features a bunch of sound effects, including various types of rain, train noises, birds, frogs, and even some less common ones like a radio static cackle, various fan noises, and wind chimes. It’s mostly for relaxation, sleep, and other similar activities. There isn’t much else to say, really. It has a ton of sounds and it works quite well. There are in-app purchases for additional things. Otherwise, this is as solid of an app as it gets.
YouTube is basically good for whatever sounds you want. There are channels with nature sounds, sleep sounds, animal sounds, binaural stuff, white noise, and even some niche things like ASMR and other such things. Plus, the video aspect adds a little bit if you want a visual element as well. Everybody already uses YouTube, so you might as well try it out for this genre as well. It’s also free with ads or you can pay $12.99 per month to remove ads, add background play (essential for this genre), and offline downloading.
