Let’s say we have 10 test cases that with the same form, but fill it with different data.
Now we specify it in details 10 times and if the form is changed, well, we have to update 10 test cases (in real life it means 9 of them will never be updated).
Our team decided to store this data separately. For example, take an excel file:
|TC 1||TC 2|
|field 1||TC 1 specific data||TC 2 specific data|
|field 2||TC 1 specific data||TC 2 specific data|
|field 3||TC 1 specific data||TC 2 specific data|
|field 4||TC 1 specific data||TC 2 specific data|
I hope that Excel is not the best possible software to do this. It’s not that convenient for both manual and automation. I think about writing a test tool myself, because it looks goddamn easy: set up database (so autotests can quickly connect and execute with any set of data we want without touching the code) with a simple web-interface.
But maybe you can suggest some ready to use tools? Integration with TestRail would be nice, but not mandatory.
